where to invest in emerging markets? I'd like to place an investment in emerging markets. rather than investing in them directly, i'd feel more confident about an investment in u.s.- or europe-based companies with heavy exposure to the bric economies. any suggestions about mutual funds or etfs that would give me that kind of exposure?
Should I invest in emerging markets? Hi, I have about $10,000 in an Australian Listed Investment Comapany (AFI), and another $10,000 in a listed property tracker fund (SLF). I've saved up another $5,000 and want to invest it. In your opinion, should I put it in the existing fund, or put it in a tracker fund for emerging markets? Emerging market funds are a fair bit more volatile, but I suspect that returns could be a lot higher. My investment goals are for the medium term. I'm not going to go to a financial planner because I think the cost would outweigh the benefits for this investment amount. Thanks, André
why is investing in emerging markets risky? Investing in emerging markets such as China and Brazil is hot right now. The rates of return can be upwards of 30 percent or more? Why is investing in emerging markets risky? Why is investing in countries that have developed economies (i.e. Japan, Great Britian) with a long-run track record less risky?
What are the best emerging market funds to invest in at the present time? I'm a guy exhausted by working with gang members in London and wanting to take a sabbatical - so decided to invest 7k in emerging market funds to see if I can fund a year off to rest! Which emerging market funds are performing well and could turn 7k into enough to live on for a year or so? Uhem, I'm serious!
How much to invest in foreign/emerging markets? With the recent decline of the dollar and the strong growth of emerging markets like China/India/Brazil, does it make sense to move most of my 401k into foreign/emerging market funds? I currently have 24% of my balance in these funds.. what % should I increase it to? Also I read that for the same reason it is better to invest in large cap rather than small cap as large cap companies are MNCs who are able to take advantage of these emerging markets. Is this true? I have 13.5% small cap and 14.5% large cap right now.. should I change those %s? I am 26 and an aggressive investor.

Investing in Frontier & Emerging Markets: How? I'm interested in investing some money in frontier markets (mainly Africa) and emerging markets (mainly South America & Eastern Europe) Any suggestions as to how/products/experience/good-bad idea etc Thanks!
When approaching emerging markets, do you prefer growth or value countries? Without regard to individual companies, on the macro, no two emerging markets are alike. That being so, in general (i.e. regardless of size, population, GDP), when you are looking for a country in which to invest, do you prefer countries that have a more established market, like a Brazil, Poland, or Russia, and can offer more of an "emerging value" atmosphere, or do you prefer a less established market, like a Bulgaria, Peru, or Georgia, which can offer more of an overall growth potential as the market becomes more developed? I'm really anxious to discuss this topic at length, so I would be glad to offer more information if required.

If there was an easy way for you to invest in Chinese or Indian stock markets, will you invest? The reason for this question is, there is a strong belief worldwide that these are the emerging economies, with potential to give you the best return on investment, equities yielding about 20-25% average (specific good stocks yielding even 100%+), and debt yielding 8-9%. If so, what is the maximum you would invest in these countries? Also, would you like to test the waters initially with a small investment? How much will that be? What is your risk perception of these markets?

How to invest in African developing countries? Hi! I'm an active investor at stock market. Have been for about 20 years now. Most of my investments are in US- and European stocks but recently I have bought investment fund shares in India too and they seem to bring pretty good profits, even I know it's more risky. As a high-risk investment, I'm very interested in finding ways to invest on the emerging African stock markets, in Angola, Mozambique etc. I'm looking for local small or mid-cap companies that have good changes to grow, or can invest on a new company too. As far as I know about the new markets in Africa is, that the market volume and starting level is such low that even small improvements would increase stock values dramatically. Would there be any broker who operates at those markets? I think it could be a good opportunity to make high profits, even the risk is very high too.
Emerging market opportunities for wealthy people? We know BRIC, Middle East, Vietnam, Latin America is good opportunity for investor. But there is only deserve for wealthy people whom have a several million dollar to invest. As ordinary people we find no opportunities on these emerging market because the capital. What does it mean to invest in cash? A lot of financial articles say "remember to invest some of your money into cash". What does this mean? CDs? Money-Market Accounts? Commercial Paper? T-bills? What does the term "cash" mean? I got it from this reading: "Another option is to anchor the emerging-market portfolio with another, less volatile asset class. That means taking 50% of the money you've earmarked for emerging markets and putting it into CASH. The other half goes into an emerging-market index fund or exchange-traded fund." PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!
would you consider it fiscally irresponsible to invest some of my 4 year old son's ugma college fund in? emerging markets exchange traded funds that invest in latin america, russia, india, and indonesia? out of a $17,000 account, i have about $8,000 of it in what would be considered emerging markets and small cap exchange traded funds. the other half of the account is in large cap domestic and international funds. in my mind, i do believe that these funds will outperform over a 15 year period and they are at least diverisified over many companies. also, since i am the one that ultimately will have to pay for his college and i contributed at least half the money in that account directly from my paycheck, i sort of feel like i am justified in being a bit aggressive. it may be more of a risk to not take any risk. what do others think about my allocation? is it responsible all things considered?
Which of these funds should I invest in? Each with minimum investment of $2500. CTCAX Columbia Technology A (5 yr return 25.28--5 years up) AEMGX Acadian Emerging Markets (5 yr 42.69--9 yrs up, 5 down) CGMFX CGM Focus (5 yr 32.58--9 yrs up, 1 down) CGMRX CGM Realty (5 yr 40.79--12 years up, 1 down)
Raising money for investing? Is it legal to advertise for investors? For instance I want to get a bunch of people together to invest in emerging markets, but would i get in trouble with the SEC? (I know about reg D and raising money thru that, but I was just wondering if its legal to raise money and just let everyone know I'm not registered with SEC?)
What does "lock in at least half of your hefty gains" mean in? That's why I'd recommend that no investor put another dime into hi-flying China-based mutual funds at this time.If you were smart or lucky enough to invest in China before, you should promptly lock in at least half of your hefty gains. In fact, I'd cut exposure to emerging markets in general to no more than 5% of your portfolio.
Portfolio optimization under universe of hedge funds? Emerging markets are booming these days, tons of money has been exported by institutional investor to pocket handsome return. A investment company runs 1000 of different funds some of which are exposed completely to emerging markets & other are 10% to 20%. World's know that these market are highly volatile and extremely risky but had performed well than other caps fund and indexes funds. As an investment company, they had to manage the risk associated with these markets, so they invest millions of money in hedge funds and derivative markets. The significant question arise here is,how the fund manager of the company can optimize their portfolio under a large universe of hedge funds.
Given the double digit losses in many emerging market mutual funds, is now a good time to buy up? If one is planning on picking a new fund and investing a couple of hundred a month for the next few years is it an okay time to start buying cheaper shares in an emerging market fund? I think yes, but with the 20-50% returns some have seen I am worried about major losses in the next year. People have been talking a lot about Asia, but some European emerging markets have been doing very well also. Anyone have an opinion on which has the better long term potential?
REIT fund or emerging market? If you had a bit of $$ to invest today, would you go for a REIT or a diversified emerging market? The reason for those two choices is that I'm only putting a small amount since I tend to remain disciplined, and I want both these sectors in my ROTH but not more than 10% each for my portfolio. But basically both have come down a bit but anyone think I should invest in one before the other? I'm just looking for extra imput I won't base my decision solely on the answers here. Thanks! They are both free trough my broker and no load. They are mutual funds since it's not enough money to justify an ETF play (and I will be adding funds probably two more time). The fees are not insane, about 1% fees for the REIT and 1.3% for the emerging fund (not bad for that category).
Which fund is a better choice under current market conditions? I am thinking abt 2 funds. 1) Vanguard Emerging Market Stock Index 2) T Rowe Price Emerging Market Stock Is it better to invest in the index fund due to lesser expense ratio (0.42 compared to 1.26)? I looked at the two funds and comparison looks like they are both giving the same kind of returns. Basically, I am wondering if an index fund is a better choice (a passive fund) compared to an active fund. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Is now a good time to invest in stocks (ETFs), since prices are so low, or should I wait? I've been wanting to invest my medium range savings (money I won't need for 5-10 years) in a diverse portfolio of ETFs* and I'm wondering if now is a good time to invest my lump sum -- since stocks seem to be hitting some record low prices. I know no one really knows, but I'm wondering what people think -- is now a wise time to buy, should I put it all in bonds and wait, or should I dollar cost average (anticipating prices will go even lower)? *Including Total Stock Market, Total International, Emerging Markets, and a little bit of commodities, like Energy, Materials and Agriculture.
