vanguard investments,? Looking out at 2030 Retirement, yet Vanguard has approx. 70 % US Stock - to me that's too high. Also, should I invest a portion of my retirement outside the US in either Emerging or International stock?
what are additional investments in vanguard? I was looking into making an account in vanguard. They have minimums of $1000, $2000, etc. But I keep seeing additional investments $100. What does that additional investments mean? Do I have to invest $100 after a certain amount of time or something like that?
Pros and Cons of Vanguard Investments? So my best friend wants to invest in Vanguard. We have been researching it together and we can only find the good aspects for it. Tons and tons of good aspects!! But there HAS to be cons too, right? If you know ANY cons to Vanguard Investments, personal stories, etc would you post them for me? Thanks!!
How do I take out my Vanguard investment for college without taxes? My grandparents set up a Vanguard investment for me when I was born. I'll be going to college this spring, and I'm told there's a way to get the money without taxes if it's for school; How?
Find current value of a past investment in Vanguard Index 500 fund? Basically looking for following fill-in: "If I invested $____ in Vanguard Index 500 fund on _____ date, what is it worth today. I need to do this for a series of investments for irregular amounts on irregular dates.
Is it wiser to max out a 401k or just do the minimum and invest the rest in after tax investments? I have read and heard *alot* about the possibility of *higher* , not lower, taxes at retirement, making me think hard as to whether I should keep maxing my 401k or not. I wonder about this new idea that everyone should put the minimum 401k to get the max employer match, max out a RothIRA, then put all the rest in aftertax low cost investments (ie, Vanguard total market funds, etc). How likely is it that most people will pay *more* taxes after retirement than they are now (while working) I bring in about $100-120k a year, age 43, and have been maxing out my 401k for a number of years, and just last year made the decision to also fund 2xRothIRA's fully each year as well (one for myself and one for my wife). Should I keep maxing my 401k or use this alternate plan so many books are pushing aound ? Tnx! Confused!
Is it safe to keep all/most of my investment money in one fund family, such as Vanguard? I am considering keeping all my investment money at Vanguard for simplicity and low expenses. Am I protected in any way in case the company goes belly-up?
Vanguard Target Retirment funds V.S. managing your own investments? I am 21 years old and I am currently investing in the Vanguard Total Stock Market index fund. I have been thinking about moving the money to the target retirement fund for my age, I seriously get the impression though that vanguard allocates too much to very low risk investments and too fast, If i were to invest it in right now i think its about 7% bonds, and it increases every year till retirement. Does anyone else thing that those funds are a little too cautious? I was thinking about also just sticking with Total Stock Market Index and maybe add a International index fund as well, what do you guys think? Is there a specific age where I should start worrying about risk and shifting to bonds, etc.?
Whats the difference between Scottstrade and Vanguard ? I see Vanguards min investment are high for the good returning funds. And it seems Scottstrade is has lower fund minimums to enter into the funds. Any help ?
Which is a better investment for 529 plan, Vanguard or Fidelity? From what I saw, Fidelity has no annual fee but charges 0.03 percent on deposits. Vanguard requires $3000 deposit or be subject to $20 annual fee but there's no fee on deposits. So Vanguard sounds like a better deal but I don't have the $3000 deposit yet. But which company is better at giving better returns?
Are my Vanguard High Yield bonds still a good investment? I don't understand investments at all. I'm told that I'm still making income on these bonds even though "the value of the bonds has decreased." I know I'm ignorant but I don't get how this can be. Can anyone explain this to a nincompoop?
Can I transfer my Vanguard funds from Scottrade to Vanguard? I have 1 Vanguard mutual fund (VFINX) in a regular investment account at Scottrade, but I want to transfer it to a Vanguard Mutual Fund Account so I don't incur fees from Scottrade. Is this possible? If so, how would I do this?
compare calamos with vanguard? compare Calamos Investments with Vanguard Investments. Need to know number of funds each has, nature of funds, money invested, return, customer profile. anything that compares and contrasts Calamos and Vanguard
I can't decide between Fidelity and Vanguard. What if I got both? My employer matches for investments with Fidelity, but I've heard good things (low fees) about Vanguard. Would it be stupid to open an account with both, after maxing out my company's matching.
I have the vanguard s&p 500 for roth ira. Whats a good 2nd investment to take out in 15 years? I made my max contribution to the roth ira for 2007 with a vanguard s&p 500 account. I would also like to invest in another vanguard account and be able to take the money out in 15 years. Does anyone have any suggestions on this additional account I should look into opening? Thanks in advance... Trainerjobe
I have all my investments through one investment company. Should I be using multiple investment companies? This is a diversification question. Is there any risk in having all your money in Fidelity or Vanguard? Should I be in multiple companies?
If the company managing your 401K files for bankruptcy, are your investments protected? I don't mean, obviously, the companies you are invested with, I mean just the one that manages the portfolio. For example: let's say I have $10,000 in Microsoft stock in my 401K and it is managed by Vanguard and Vanguard goes kaput! Am I out of luck? The PBGC website says it protects defined beneift pensions. 401Ks are definded contribution plans. It also specifically excludes 401Ks and profit sharing plans.
Which Vanguard Funds hold the most technology stocks that I can invest $3,000 in? I see that the Vanguard ETF Technology fund has a minimum investment of $100,00 I would like to invest about $5,000 in a Vanguard fund that has a large amount of technology stock holdings. Anyone know which fund would be the best for this?
Is it better to go with a discount broker td ameritrade for roth ira or directly with fund family vanguard? I want to transfer my current Roth IRA to a broker. Now is it better if I go to a discount broker like td ameritrade where they charge $50 fcommission for mutual fund investments or should I just go directly to the fund family I'm interested in like Vanguard or T. Rowe Price?
Scottrade, etrade, schwab, or vanguard which is the most straightforward and best to invest with? I am looking to invest and I would like to know which company is least expensive and least hidden costs for investing. I am looking more long term and not day trading. I would probably invest in about 3 or 4 investments or about 2,000 a month in different companies. If you can help that would be awesome. Thanks
Is Vanguard $3K Roth minimum for all invested funds combined, or for each fund separately? I'd like to open a Roth IRA at Vanguard, but each fund I want to invest in has a $3,000 minimum. So, say I allocate 70% in one fund, 20% in another, 10% in another. Will I need $9,000 initial investment to open the Roth? Or, does the $3,000 minimum apply to the Roth itself, regardless of the funds allocated?
where can i buy shares of the vanguard 500 index fund? i went to vanguard.com but buying the fund requires an initial investment of $3,000. i don't have that much money easily accessible right now. i was wondering if it is possible to buy shares of the same fund (VFINX) somewhere else that doesn't require such a large initial investment. also, will i have to worry about fees if i buy it from another brokerage?
Roth IRA at Fidelity vs Vanguard? Hi everyone. I've been doing some research and get equal reports of satisfaction from people who have Roth IRAs at Fidelity Investments and Vanguard as well. Many people claim that the fees are less at Vanguard. However I cannot contribute the minimum of $3,000 to open a Roth there. I can, however, contribute electronically to Fidelity with $200/month minimum to start. Would it still be wise to open a Roth IRA with Fidelity despite my limitation? Thanks again.
has anybody invested money in a retirement target account with either t rowe or vanguard ? Looking to hear some opinions and what happens? Do you invest every month? Does the fund take care of all the investment? If a fund says a 10% return does this mean what you will earn on your money before tax or is that the gross return out of which they take their fees? How is the return on these retirement target funds viewed for tax purposes? Do you get taxed on the gross return, only on the net return after fees?
do i need reit exposure in my retirement accounts if i am a 28 year old investor? i have about 40 k in target-date investments at vanguard and i'm debating whether or not to transfer 3k(their minimum) into a reit index fund.
Trowe Price/Vanguard vs Traditional Investment Firms? Hi. I'm 34 years old and I have two general questions, but I'll ask the most important right now. I rolled over a small 401k (about $10k) with a traditional investment firm (LPL Financial). Of course, they push American Funds. I have 4 funds of which 2 are AF, 2 Vanguards and 1 Tiaa-Cref fund. I don't think I'll move out of the AF funds b/c I've already paid the load. I'm not sure using a traditional firm with all the charges was wise.I contacted a TRowe Price rep and naturally they charge for non-TRowe funds. Finally the question.... Are traditonal firms better than direct buys from firms like T-Rowe Price, Vanguard, Fidelity, etc? I don't want to be locked in one fund family. I like funds from different firms. I like AF Large Caps, T-Rowe small/mid-caps and Vanguard for a variety of funds. It seems no matter where I look, unless you're sticking with "one family" funds, you're going to pay regardless. T-Rowe and Vanguard both charge fees for purchasing funds outside their families. So I'm thinking should I even switch to them? Thanks!
What happens if Schwab goes belly up? If I decide to put all my investments ie Vanguard, Janus etc. under Schwab or the like, and Scwab goes like Enron do i lose them all? Or do I still own my stuff. Is it best to do this? Thanks.
Vanguard vs. Edward Jones Investing Question? I am 24 yrs old and have been starting to do some research on investing. I would definitely like to start a roth IRA and possibly a separate IRA in addition to my work 403(b) account. I have been reading how Edward Jones is a reputable company that give you the "one on one" attention but charge about 5% up front on every dollar you invest, if I read correctly? I have heard better opinions on Vanguard due to their rates being lower, but I can't seem to find out how much less than Edward Jones. Secondly, does Vanguard just do Investments or do they offer personal banking options and mortgage loans? I am looking to buy a house in the next year and wanted to know if they have that service also. Obviously, I new to this and looking for some help.
Should I keep maxing my 401k or not? What about the tax consequences at retirement? Tnx! Confused!
Vanguard? Should I invest? My employer is offering to help us open an investment account with Vanguard. (We are part-time and don't get 401K) They don't charge a fee to help invest. We received a booklet of the "portfolios" (I think) that they offer and we were supposed to choose which one we feel is best for us. I would really like to start making investments towards my future. But I can't make heads or tails of anything written in this book or how to choose the right package. I know there's risk in any investment, but does anyone know about Vanguard from personal experiences? Does anyone have any advice? Please no fancy financial language. (That's what lost me.)
What is VanGuard all about? I was told about an investment site called VanGuard. I am just 18 but looking for a way to start saving money for a long term use, but dont know what VanGuard is, or even what to do to start? Any help?
Can I do dollar for dollar cost averaging with Vanguard Total International Fund? Just opened account with minimum investment amount. forgot to ask how tp proceed with dollar for dollar cost averaging on monthly basis.
Investing in vanguard? I am considering opening a roth ira at vanguard and am not sure which investment type to pick. Vanguard mutual fund - Vanguard's family of no-load stock, bond, and money market funds provides investment options for nearly every financial goal.....OR..... stocks, bonds, ETFs, and non-Vangaurd mutual funds - A Vanguard Brokerage Services® account enables you to invest in stocks, bonds, ETFs, CDs, and funds from hundreds of mutual fund companies. You'll select a money market fund now and make purchases after your account is open. I also wanted to start a mutual fund at vanguard, but there are a few options of what fund to choose and i'm not sure which is best. How do i determine which one to go with? I think i want to go with one that is more risk/more reward. Would it be best to do a roth ira and a mutual fund or just one for now? I have about 6k to start with. I am 24 so these will be long term investments for me. Thanks!
Vanguard- A smart investment? I'm in med school- and I have more than $20,000 to invest . I have found a 6% CD, but I'm thinking about starting to invest in a Vanguard fund- I hear good things about small caps, international, and the 500. I'm a bit conservative in my investing- so although I'm aware of the risk involved, it seems the Vanguard (S&P) funds are sure-fire to beat the CD rates. Any ideas? PS- time period- 5 years minimum Spoke to a friend of mine- a personal financial counselor. He says not to put all down in the market yet. A 20 year bull market is unprecedented, and credit and housing bubbles may hurt the market soon. Hmmmm... Basically, question is- do I wait for things to fall a little (stocks are riding high now) and then invest, or do I invest now, or do I not worry because in the longer run a bump wouldn't matter so much?
Is there a minimum investment when buying ETFs? I want to buy shares of a Vanguard ETF through scottrade. There is a $3000 minimum investment for Vanguard mutual funds but does this also apply to ETFs? What about other ETFs?
Vanguard 401K question? I'm newbie when it comes to investment. I have Vanguard 401K plan with my previous company. All the funds are down, and I can't withdraw. What shall I do? Any good suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
For investing: what is a Prime Money Market? Such as Vanguard? What is a Prime Money Market (with being able to withdrawal money without penalty, and adding an increase in interest when they are put into affect? Such as Vanguard? How do you invest in one? Is there a catch? Is there a site/ or a certain money market that has options available for investment?
Taxes on investments? i want to start investing but i am unsure about the taxes. are the profits you make on investments taxed? for example if i started an account with vanguard to buy index funds, and one with scottrade to buy individual stocks--how would i know what taxes i owe on the profits i make from those investments? for the record i am 20 years old and i am a dependent of my fathers. in other words, i do not file my own taxes. also because of certain circumstances i have never had a job in the united states so i have no experience with taxes. i hope this isn't a stupid question. thanks in advance.
What is best book to purchase about how to do your own investing in today's global market? We are retired with no debt and no expectation of inheritance. Fortunately, we can live on our retirement income. We already have most of our portfolio with Vanguard and Fibelity, two investment companies that charge low fees. I feel a need to better understand the large amount of data and graphs that are available, but not sure what to focus on first and how to combine all the data and graphs together to make a decision that is best for us. I also like following world events and read on history, and know information in these areas are also important, but not sure how to integrate into our investment strategy.
Retirement investing: Vanguard funds or a local "investment" person? I've been saving for my & my wife's retirement (per ROTH and Traditional IRAs) for quite a while now. At first, I used Morgan Stanley (loaded funds w/ great histories); this was for about 5 years. Needless to say, the "broker" there didn't give a rat's dropping about my account, probably because I wasn't a big fish. I never received phone calls from her - I was always the one who intitated (some) interest. I changed careers, moved back to my hometown, and am now using a local "investment" person for retirement. The family of funds he offers (through NYLife) are also loaded; and they all have great histories. Problem is, those histories don't take into account inflation (3% per year) NOR the amount they ding you for managing funds year after year after year. WHY DOESN'T EVERYONE USE VANGUARD & PAY AS LITTLE AS 0.25% PER YEAR TO MANAGE RETIREMENT MONEY? Am I a TOTAL idiot for purchasing loaded funds in the first place? If I switch to Vanguard now, I'll pay some hefty fees.
Investing with Vanguard? I am a new investor, looking to invest roughly $500 a month, every month, for at least 10 years. I want to buy Vanguard index funds. Should I go ahead and open an individual account with Vanguard? The minimum initial investment is $3,000...does that mean I must initially "invest" the $3,000 or can I simply fund the account with $3,000? Thank you for your help.
The Vanguard Prime Money Market Fund (VMMXX) requires an initial $3000 minimum investment, but...? does that mean I must ALWAYS keep $3000 in there? Or can I exchange as much as I want out to another Vanguard fund. I have $4000 in there now and want to move $2000 into the Vanguard Star Fund. Can that be done? I called Vanguard but couldn't get a clear answer. What will happen if I let the VMMXX drop below $3000??
Will an ammo portfolio beat a mutual fund portfolio? There are 2 investors, Mike and Gary. They both decide to invest $500 from their paychecks every month for the next 25 years, Mike invests in ammo and Gary invests in the Vanguard 500 fund. Mike buys premium brass case ammo and Gary buys shares of the Vanguard 500 fund. They are both working and living in an economy of high dollar inflation, big government spending, scarce jobs, and tight bank lending. Which of the 2 investors's investment will do better when they retire? Which of the investments will be worth more?
Vanguard Target Retirement Fund: 2045 vs. 2050? I'm turning 22 years old and I'm planning on starting a Roth IRA with Vanguard. If you compare the holdings on the two funds... https://flagship.vanguard.com/VGApp/hnw/FundsHoldings?FundId=0306&FundIntExt=INT https://flagship.vanguard.com/VGApp/hnw/FundsHoldings?FundId=0699&FundIntExt=INT The differences are that the 2045 fund has a total of $1.7 billion invested, while the 2050 fund has $78.8 million. The investments are distributed close enough that I would call them equal. The biggest thing I am considering right now between the two funds is that the 2050 fund is $24.17 and the 2045 fund is only $15.36. Also, the 2050 fund was started in 2006, while the 2045 fund was started in 2003. Because the 2045 fund is cheaper and it invests in the same holdings, is there any reason I would want to purchase the 2050 fund? I am obviously investing for the long term, and I will hold more shares with the 2045 fund, which would lead to larger growth, I would think...
Advice on investing right after graduation at 22 years old? Just graduated in May and have already set up my 401k Vanguard account with my work. They match 8% if you contribute 2% so I am already taking advantage of that but would like to start some other investments. I graduated with around $15,000 in student loans so that is my first priority to pay off but I would like to start investing in stocks. Good recommendations for websites to follow stocks? Saving for short term goals etc?
What do you think about my VEU, CHN and VTI portfolio? I want to invest $250 a month in these three ETFs. What do you think? What is your opinion? If this was your money what would you do? What mutual fund in Vanguard is a great investment for retirement? Etc?
Are Vanguards Mutual Funds a great investment? I have the VTI ETF and it seems like a great investment to me. I am thinking about investing in a Mutual Fund but ETFs seem more better because you have more control over them. What is your opinion?
Want to invest $1000 in 2 different types of funds seeking advice? College Student with $1000 to invest. Want to invest $500 in 2 separate funds- one which will see growth in about 2 years and one that will see growth in about 5 years. Index funds and Intermediate term bond funds have been suggested. Am I not investing enough to see growth? ALSO I've been investigating Vanguard as my investment company- good choice with the small amount of money I plan on investing? ALSO where can I find a good financial advisor (no cost if possible) Any advice would be helpful.
Opening a ROTH IRA account with Vanguard? Hello I've decided to open up a ROTH IRA account with Vanguard within a couple months. The guildline states that: --------- Who can contribute and how much The guidelines for investing in a Roth IRA include: * Income limit. Your earned income from working must at least equal your IRA contributions. If you're married and filing a joint income tax return, you may also contribute to an IRA for a nonworking spouse.* Income limits affect whether you can make a full or partial contribution. * Minimum contribution. The minimum investment to open a fund within your Roth IRA is $3,000. ------- Let say I have the $3000 dollars needed to open the account. But on the other hand, I was only able to make 1500 dollars this year with Earned Income as my first job. Would I be able to use the $3000 to open the account and contribute the $1500, even though I only have an Earned Income of $1500? Also would the $3000 that I had on the side be included in my contributing limit of $4000 a fiscal year ROTH IRA just because I opened the account? Or would I be able to contribute another $2500 within this fiscal year (assuming that I would be able to make that much before tax deadlines)? The website is located below: https://flagship.vanguard.com/VGApp/hnw/accounttypes/retirement/ATSRothIRAWhoContributeContent.jsp Thanks a bunch
What is the best way to invest $10k in a real estate investment? Background: Currently have good investments (stocks/bonds), emergency fund, no debt, full funded retirement accounts, own a house at a very low interest rate. Already own a Vanguard REIT in an IRA account. Happen to have an extra $10K and looking for investing ideas in Real estate (e.g. rental, commercial partnership, etc.) ?? Thanks.
What are the different reasons to open a general investing and/or a retirement investing account? On Vanguard it has a "General Investing" account and a "Retirement Investment" account. Obviously the latter is for IRAs, but what is the advantages and purpose of the general investing?
What's a good stock mutual funds to invest in now? I want to diversify and wondering what stock mutual funds people are recommending? Right now most of my retirement stuff are in Vanguard target 2025 and my long term non IRA stuff are in Vanguard Windsor 2. Any recommendations? No pure stocks please. I have no experience with pure stock investment. Thank you.
Roth IRA help - What type of funds to invest in for someone who knows little about investing? I'm 34 and want to start a Roth IRA for myself and plan to to contribute the max amount in one contribution each year. I know I want to go with either Fidelity, Vanguard, or T. Rowe. I know very little about investing and would like to feel secure with the investment. I know there are too many funds to choose from and I don't understand them. Thanks for your suggestions.
Where is the best place to put Roth IRA money with objective of preserving capital? Regarding a Roth IRA investment; does buying a Tax Exempt Bond make sense over a Taxable Bond Fund? At this time, which is better; Short, Long, or Intermediate Term? Do you have any specific recommendations within the Vanguard family of funds? Right now everything is in a money market fund. Thanks in advance.

Is my IRA too conservatively invested in the federal money market fund? My Vanguard IRA. I told them to move the money to where it was invested as conservatively as possible, and they suggested federal money market fund. My wife says that's like stuffing it in a mattress, but I dunno. I don't know much about money, but a conservative investment seems ok, I think. I hope someone out there more knowledgeable than myself will comment on this. Thanks for any help. Thanks, Jacqyln, but I'm sort of looking for a short answer or opinion here. This writer you're suggesting mixes finance and religion? Think I'll pass on that.
I just invested in a roth ira (vanguard S&P 500) for $3000.00 was this a good choice? Hi, I just invest $3000.00 into my first roth ira mutual fund (vanguard S&P 500 index), was this a good choice? What else should i be looking to invest into in this current economy? I am looking for mid to long-term investments. I am willing to take some risk since I am in my 20's and have time to recover. I just started my venture into the stock market and would like to hear from people with exprience. Any good books i should read? Any advice for the future? Thank you for you time.
Vanguard Roth IRA - I need some financial advice? I'm very new to investing. So please forgive me. I just opened a Roth IRA with Vanguard. $3,000k to start. I picked the default investment option at this time, since I don't know what else to invest in. It looks like my money is invested in a Vanguard Prime Money Market Fund. It looks to be very safe and not going to make me a lot? I'm not terribly risky, but would like to expect more than a 2.18% ROI. I plan on contributing $5k per year to my Roth and am only 25 years old...so I think I can afford to be a little more risky than what Vanguard defaulted me on? Any suggestions as to what Vanguard accounts I should put my money into? Or ones good for someone my age? Thanks so much.
IRA with T.Rowe Price now, should I move it to Vanguard later? hi I opened my ROTH IRA 2035 right now with T. Rowe Price because I don't have 3000 dollars to open an account with Vanguard. When my 2035 reach 3000 dollars, should I transfer the balance to Vangaurd? Since they have smaller ratio? As I understand, there will have some charges for me from T. Rowe Price right? Will that be a lot? How much money I need to have in the investment in order to avoid annual service fees? thank you very much
invest with multiple management companies? I am currently planning to leave my current investment advisor as I am unhappy with the level of service and lack of low cost options. I plan to continue having an advisor that will manage two main retirement options (a roth IRA and a rolled over 401K from a prior job). I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket with this one group and would also like to push some discretionary income into an account with Vanguard that I will manage on my own, mostly investing in index funds. is this a relatively smart idea?
Can I move my variable annuities into my Roth IRA? Should I? I have two variable annuity funds from previous jobs. One is from TIAA-Cref, and is worth $10,000. The other is from Vanguard, and is worth $2,500. I'm 33 years old, and I'm currently contributing to a Vanguard Roth IRA. Would it be possible to move the annuity funds into the IRA? If so, is this advisable, and what are the tax implications? If not, is there something else I can do with the annuities besides hold onto them? The companies charge low service fees, but I know now that annuities are not the best investment for a person my age. The annuities are in 403(b) accounts.
Vanguard Emerging Markets Stock ETF (VWO)? Would this be a good ETF to own as a complement to owning the more conservative Vanguard 500 INdex (VFINX)? Or is there a better performing emerging markets ETF? I have 401k,roth IRA, cash reserves and no debt. This would be for long term investment for retirement (23 years).
If I want to change my Roth IRA investments...? I have a Roth IRA through Edward Jones. If I'm not happy and want to pull out and invest at Vanguard instead, how do I go about it? Are there fees and penalties involved?
Should i get an individual investment account or a Roth IRA? What are the pros and cons of each? Is an individual account liquid (i.e. you can take money out whenever you want)? I'm thinking of opening an index fund with Vanguard, but should which vehicle should i invest it in? I'm 23 years old and already investing into my TSP, if that matters in the decision. Gosh, i think you misunderstood me. I was asking if i should invest in an individual investment account (aka a mutual fund that is not put into an IRA). I wasn't referring to "traditional IRAs.
A financial advisor is pushing me to use Mainstay investments for both and IRA and a 529 account.? Is this a good company? Why would she push Mainstay instead of, let's say, Vanguard?
Money Market Account - Vanguard? I have $15,000 that I would like to transfer to Vanguard. I heard about the 5.10% interest rate that Vanguard is paying for their "Prime Money Market Fund." However, I also read in their site the following: "A money market mutual fund investment is **not insured** or guaranteed by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation or any other government agency. Although a money market mutual fund seeks to preserve the value of your investment at $1 per share, it is possible to lose money by investing in such a fund" ( https://flagship.vanguard.com/VGApp/hnw/FundsSnapshot?FundId=0030&FundIntExt=INT ) Does this mean that I can actually lose my money because their Money Market accounts are not insured? I wouldn't mind the risk of losig $10 but I wouldn't want to risk my entire money. Please help.
Investing with a Vanguard 401k? I have recently signed up with my employer for a 401k with vanguard. They match $.50/$1 for the first 5% of my pay. I current contribute 5%($200/month) My balances and funds are: Vanguard Long-Term Invest-Gr Inv - VWESX(Bal: 193.25, 10% of new contributions go here) Vanguard Wellington Fund Inv - VWELX(Bal: 240.74 30% of new contributions go here) Vanguard Total Stock Mkt Idx Inv - VTSMX(Bal: 305.35 30% of new contributions go here) Vanguard International Growth Inv - VWIGX(Bal 319.46 30% of new contributions go here) I'm not extremely concerned with this because I'm sure that no matter what, I'm going to come out with more than I would've had before with the 1/2 employer match, so I won't lose any of my money necessarily. I am concerned though because I keep loosing more and more money. Should I put what I have into a low risk investment and keep new contributions going into the funds that are loosing, or just leave it alone because it's only $1,000? I'm 25 and approx 30k/yr
Where to Invest $1,000.00? Hello all, I currently have a UGMA/UTMA Vanguard investment and I will be cashing in some of it for a necessary home repair. I am going to have 1,000 left over and I would really like to start a new investment. The UGMA investment was not a heavy mover..(increased 1,000 in 5 years). I dont know much about investments or stocks but I am looking at starting a new investment maybe outside of vanguard. Im 22 years old and I am looking for something that has a solid potential for good growth. I plan to also contribute more to it from time to time. Anyone have any good suggestions??? Thanks!
